• The term “Foursquare” stands for the four-fold ministry of Jesus Christ as the Savior (Romans 10:9), Baptizer with the Holy Spirit (Luke 3:16), Healer (1 Peter 2:24) and Coming King (Acts 1:11).

• The Foursquare Church - officially the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel was founded in Los Angeles, CA, by Aimee Semple McPherson in 1923.1

• The Foursquare Gospel is by no means a new or modern gospel. It is the same gospel proclaimed in the early church, in all its fullness. Foursquare is simply a name applied to help describe the four most important aspects of the gospel taught in the New Testament.2

• The Foursquare Gospel Church is trinitarian, proclaiming the Bible as “true, immutable, steadfast and as unchangeable as its author, the Lord Jehovah.” Water baptism is by immersion and the Lords’ Supper (communion) is observed in all churches. The baptism with the Holy spirit is taught as a special endowment of power, promised by God, the Father, and sent by Jesus Christ, the Son, to enable the believer as a witness. Those who are physically sick can be healed in answer to prayer. The second coming of Christ is taught as imminent.2

• From its inception, the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel has ordained women in ministry. Both men and women are allowed to minister on all levels of leadership withing the Chruch, including the local congregation, the Bible colleges, district supervision, the Foursquare cabinet and the denomination’s board of directors.3

• The Foursquare Church actively participates in the National Association of Evangelicals, the American Bible Society, the Pentecostal/Charismatic Church of North America, the Pentecostal World Conference, and the Evangelical Fellowship fo Missions Agencies. Many of its leaders, pastors and members ser e on the executive boards and committees of para-church agencies and endeavors.3
